Organisations We Work With

Until last year the Network was actively and directly represented on the Council’s Strategic Policy Committee (SPC), and in fact had two members participating in meetings. Originally  representatives were required to be on the Leitrim Communty Forum first, but this prerequisite was later removed.

With the setting up of the Council’s new Public Participation Network (PPN) structure all this has changed. There is now no automatic representation on the SPC. A nominated PPN representative is required to be elected in order to attend SPC meetings. It may now mean that the LRAN is not directly represented and has no real say in policy in the future.

At the present time we are able to liaise directly with Sinéad Flynn in the Council Housing Dept. to discuss issues.

Leitrim Development Company provides annual funding and practical support for the Network. In particular we work with Bernie Donoghue, their community worker based in the Mohill Office.

This forum was set up in 2004 and gave representation and a voice at a local level to many different community and voluntary groups as part of local government restructuring in Ireland at that time. In Leitrim it proved very effective, and addressed many key community and local issues. LRAN has been represented since the start. However, the Community Forums have now been replaced by the new PPN structure, and the Network is represented on the PPN at a local level. The Leitrim Community Forum is officially defunct, but the website is still viable and records its achievements.

These Networks represented community groups in North and South Leitrim respectively and were key members of the Leitrim Community Forum. Over the years they have held joint seminars to discuss local and community issues. Most recently last year they held a joint seminar entitled How can Community Groups in Leitrim best engage in the Public Participation Network Process?  which was attended by LRAN representatives.
