Feeding into Local Housing Policy
Leitrim Residents’ Associations Network operates at a grassroots level and is made aware of estate issues and deficiencies in the system before the Council learns of them. We are committed to maintaining open communications with the council and other bodies on housing issues and policy. Originally this was through attendance at SPC meetings, and also through the Leitrim Community Forum, which were effective means of initiating discussion and action.
The new national Public Participation Network process recently launched in Leitrim by the Council has promised much, but it remains to be seen how this will work in practice. Leitrim Residents’ Associations Network is registered as a member of the County PPN under the Voluntary sector and a representative has been attending meetings, but we do not have an independent voice. At this point support for the new structure is very low amongst community groups and the process is not very effective. For further information on the PPNs see Documentation.
In the meantime fortunately we are able to communicate our concerns and recommendations direct to Sinéad Flynn in the Housing Dept.
